Topsail Island Fishing

Topsail has long been recognized as one of the premier fishing destinations on the East Coast. We have an incredible variety of species that can be caught from pier, surf, or boat.

Pier fishing starts in the spring with the arrival of the sea mullet, a fun pan fish to catch, and one of the best on the table! The blues show up next, and these voracious feeders provide lots of nonstop action on light tackle, generous limits, and a tasty treat at the end of the day. Spanish Mackerel, drum, flounder and spots are next as the water warms up. The excitement heats up in May with the arrival of King Mackerel and Cobia. And so the season goes, with many runs of fish peaking in the Fall months.

Surf fishing is popular at Topsail as well, with easy access to many excellent locations, some directly in front of the Jolly Roger Inn. During the fall months you may access the beach with your 4-wheel drive, with a valid permit from the Town. The beach access is only a mile from the Jolly Roger; this allows you to fish at the Point at Topsail Inlet.

Inshore, offshore, and inside sound fishing are all available either on your own boat, or on one of the local charter or head boats. Charters and boat ramp are located close to the Jolly Roger.

The Jolly Roger provides convenient access to all of these, with 24 hour fishing, complete bait and tackle shop, Oceanfront Grill, Oceanfront Inn, and any supplies and fishing information you might need. We maintain a Blanket Coastal Recreational Fishing License that covers our customers while they are fishing on our Pier.
